Introduction to Fire Safety Module of CAHO

Hospitals do have priority as on date to have fire safety management as their important working practice. Getting Fire NOC from Fire department has been a bottle neck in many states.

CAHO has attempted to establish an online platform (www.cahofireaudits.in) to build the required safety understanding, visibility, compliance and competency towards fire safety in Hospital Industry.

Scope of the Fire Safety Management Module For Hospital Industry (FSMMHI):

  • Facilitate as a software platform for registration of hospitals who are interested in self evaluation of fire safety.
  • Facilitate the Fire Safety auditors to conduct audits and update their recommendations by validating the self scores done by hospitals.
  • Facilitate CAHO in monitoring the progressive growth of fire safety SWOT - Strength, weakness, opportunity and Threats of the hospitals registered annually.

Categories of Hospitals

The hospitals are categorized to have a clearer understanding of volume of operations and are evolved based on Clinical Establishment Act.

They are classified as Level 1, Level 2, Level 3 and Level 4

  • Hospital Level 1
    Primary healthcare services provided by qualified doctors that include General Medicine, Pediatrics, First aid to emergency patient and Out Patient Services, Obstetrics & Gynecology Non-surgical and Minor Surgery.
  • Hospital Level 2
    This level may include all the services provided at level 1 plus also have facility for Surgery and Anesthesia. Secondary healthcare services can be provided through registered medical practitioner under supervision and with support of specialists; it will have other support systems required for these services like pharmacy, laboratory, diagnostic facility etc.
  • Hospital Level 3
    This level may include all the services provided at level 1 and 2 plus the following: Multi-specialty clinical care with distinct departments, General Dentistry (this could be optional in case of independent Dental Hospital), Intensive Care Unit. Tertiary healthcare services can be provided through specialists; it will have other support systems required for these services like pharmacy, Laboratory, and Imaging facility.
  • Hospital Level 4
    This level will include all the services provided at level 3. It will however have the distinction of being teaching/ training institution and it will have multiple super specialties. Tertiary healthcare services that can be provided through specialists; It will have other support systems required for these services. It shall also include the requirements of MCI/other registering body.
  • Further they are categories based on no. of beds and height of the hospitals:
    a) Bed ranging from <30, 30-250, 250-1000 & >1000
    b) Height up to 15m, 15m to 24m, 24m to 45 m & >45m

Fire Safety Management Modules

The online web based software (www.cahofireaudits.in) will have:

  • Self-Audit Module: Registration & Self Safety Assessment Section. Hospitals approach CAHO through Hospital Dashboard to assist in conducting the Hospital's Safety Audit with the help of CAHO'S Fire a pool of Safety Auditors maintained.
  • Verified Audit Module: "Verified Offsite Audit by Safety Professionals" - Hospital requests CAHO to verify the Self Safety Assessment / Audit. CAHO will review the Self audit conducted and give feedback on the report.
  • Site Audit Module: CAHO will empanel safety auditors and the hospital will be able to select from the pool of auditors list maintained region wise. A report generated would be submitted by auditor to the hospital with recommendations. Certificate will be issued.

Registration for Hospitals with CAHO

  • Hospitals should register with CAHO website.
  • Password will be generated and sent to registered email id after activation done by CAHO admin.
  • After receiving user id & password, Hospital can start with self-assessment.

Scope of registered Hospitals with CAHO

  • Hospital can do a Self-Assessment for safety and can generate the Self-Assessment report for reference.
  • Hospital requests CAHO to verify the Self Safety Assessment / Audit. CAHO will review the Self audit conducted and give feedback on the report.
  • CAHO will empanel safety auditors and the hospital will be able to select from the pool of auditors list maintained region wise.
  • Certificate will be issued based on generated report submitted by the auditors to the hospitals.

Pre-preparation, Report preparation and software updation are all to be part of the above package. Travel, conveyance and accommodation of any auditor will be borne by the hiring hospital.

  • All information collected during the course of the assignment shall remain confidential. We are committed to safeguard any information that you share with us.
  • Termination: This agreement shall be valid up to 1 year. Confirmation shall be extended against this agreement.
  • CAHO is not responsible for unforeseen circumstances encountered during the delivery of the service which may require additional time or expense, and could result in our inability to complete the project as specified in the contract.
